Lance has been training Jiu Jitsu for over 20 years and has trained with some of the best practitioners and competitors of all time to include Rubens Cobrinha Charles, Lucas Lepri, Romero Jacare Cavalcanti, and Kaliffa Oliveira. Lance was recommended for black belt by Kaliffa Oliveira and was received by Master Carlos Gracie Jr’s hand.
Lance is also a certified SOCP Instructor (Special Operations Combatives Program) under Greg Thompson. Lance has created TAP (Total Assault Protection) and trains law enforcement with his program based from SOCP and TACP principals. Lance has also created a women’s self defense course under the TAP banner.
Lance is a veteran serving in units such as 75th Ranger Regiment, 10th Special Forces Group, and still serves in 20th Special Forces Group. Lance has countless deployments around the world.
River is our Program Director and is also one of our Personal trainers, Strength coach, and strength athlete. Driven by success, River takes pride in providing honest feedback on real world goals. In addition to his extensive coaching career, River has been able to work and obtain 6 Alabama State Records across two different age classes.
John has been training Jiu Jitsu over 10 years and has trained in various academies throughout the US and Brazil. John found his home training with Lance and has been an assistant instructor at the academy since it’s inception.
Ryan began training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Black belt Kent Sublet with the Carlson Gracie team at Troy, AL in 2014. He then trained and earned his blue belt under Samuel Puccio in Birmingham, AL. He came to Gracie Barra Anniston in 2019 where he earned his purple belt and now teaches. He has competed and placed in several state tournaments and enjoys getting to grow in his jiu-jitsu with the Anniston team. He has a passion for helping people begin their jiujitsu journey and getting to enjoy the relationships and comradery that come with the sport.
Simon began his jiu jitsu journey in 2017. He immediately found jiu jitsu to be incredibly fun, difficult, and satisfying. Simon is one of our competitors and likes to compete at least a few times per year to remain sharp. Simon enjoys teaching the fundamental class and getting individuals started on their journey. He often says “It’s very rewarding to see one of my students land a technique live that I taught”.
Claire has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2017- beginning in our kid’s program. Today, she assists in coaching the same program. She takes pride in encouraging our young practitioners to be the best they can be, both on and off the mats.
